Childhood and Adolescence : In the shadows of Ishgard's towering spires, Abigail was born into a hushed and hidden existance. As the unexpected child of a tryst between a lord and his maid, things should have been far worse for her. Fortunately, her lord father was a benevolent man and despite his instance to remain unknown to her, he had seen Abigail and her mother put in an apartment in the Pillars and a decent allowance to be shared for her upbringing. Her mother had theorized that it was in the off chance he had no daughters of his own. That one day perhaps, she might be welcomed into the fold as an heiress or married to some lower noble in some gesture of good faith or political gain. She was tutored privately to read and write, to sing and dance, manners and etiquette; everything a proper lady should be and have in her arsenal. But she was kept largely out of sight, out of mind; a thing in a pretty cage, kept more like a pet than a daughter. Adulthood : Despite the signs all pointing to good things, none would come to pass. In the aftermath of Dalamud's fall, as the nigh eternal winter gripped the region, her mother succumb to the cold. Whether to fragile to adapt to their harsh new reality, or merely unwilling, she was not strong enough. But Abigail persisted. She had watched and learned and did as she had been told, but she knew the only reason for her father's kindness was out of love (or merely the burden of responsibility) for her mother. Without her, that kindness ran thin and soon turned bitter. Though she was able to inherit the apartment, the allowance ceased. A small blessing came in the form of a large sum of the allowances having been kept aside for her and kept along with it were the letters proving the affair. But what was the word of a bastard against the word of a noble? Less than nothing. She knew of the scheming and the plotting and the feuds between the houses. So she offered the letters not as blackmail, but a peace offering. She asked in exchance only that she not be tossed aside completely. She swore that should prove herself useful to him and asked only that he keep her in mind. But even that was more than he wished to give. He assured her only that he bore no ill will, but he would see her as nothing more than a stranger. Perhaps a day might come when he called on her, but it was not in the foreseeable future. Recent Events : In the years that followed, Abigail cast off the surname of Greystone in favour of one of her own making. Freed of that burden, she became a middling Astrologian. While better at party tricks using Astromancy to earn free drinks and to impress those who know no better for their praise and only a smidge farther in her lessons than Jannequinard, she has earned Leveva's ire for her careless use of the cards and general disrespect for the art. She is certain one day that fates will come crashing down on her for it however. She still found it a large measure more useful in finding work and keeping her busy than much else she has a talent for.

Written in the Stars : Fate has a funny way of making things happen. Either the cards have deemed it important and she has been sent on a mission to divine the truth of the matter, or someone has decided they require some clarity of their own fate. She will gladly peddle fortunes for a price and it need not always be in gil. Healer for Hire : Simply reading fortunes and working in the Astrologicum doesn't exactly pay well and her meagre inheritance won't last forever. As much as she loathes dirtying her silks, she must continue to keep herself afloat. Surely someone could use a little Benefic when chasing down their marks. Gathering Gossip like Triple Triad Cards : Abigail is not content with her place in society. She is ever on the look out for a chance to further her standing. If that means throwing someone else under the bus because of some scandalous rumors, she'll do it. It also means that she must constantly combat any that move against her. And she makes such an easy target as a woman of little renown and belonging to no house.
Unknown Ancestry : Though Abigail's face is one that has been seen around Ishgard and Coerthas a whole for a while, none can say with any certainty where exactly she's come from. Rarely, if ever, giving away a surname, nothing seems to tie her to any house or family. Ambiguous Morals : Given her pedigree is in question, its only reasonable to wonder...how did she end up brushing elbows with the Holy See's blue bloods? What strings did she pull? What coin changed hands or threats made in the right ear? A mysterious benefactor, or a patron of a more improper sort?
